Defenders of Troy

New Year, New Opportunity.

Lassiter Lacrosse has an opportunity to reorganize and re-focus. We’re going to get back to what made us one of the premiere programs in the southeast: youth programming, skill development, and an emphasis on a “Lassiter First” mindset. In order to do that, we’ve created a full-year “Defenders of Troy” calendar for our families so that they can plan accordingly. We have the coaches, the players, and the facilities to rival any developmental opportunity in the area. This year, we get back on track and take full advantage.

Together, we rise.

Curriculum At A Glance

Our schedule will be broken down into 4 Blocks: Fall Dev, Winter Dev, Spring Comp, and Summer Comp. Our goal is to focus on the fundamentals during the first 3 months, sharpen our team play during the winter block, make a run at a state championship in the spring, and then close out the year with some super regional competition taking our boys to tournaments around the southeast. Our objective is to maximize opportunities for our Lassiter Families and grow the game in our area at a more affordable price than typical club offerings. With buy-in, we’ll dramatically improve our product on the field, build invaluable chemistry, and ensure that our Lassiter families are prioritized.

Fall Development

Our first training block will revolve around creating our identity as individuals. We’re emphasizing the fundamentals of the game: Ground Balls, Stick Work, Heads dodging, Tough Defense, and understanding the Two Man Game. Practice sessions are designed to maximize touches and competition. Expect to see plenty of station work, 1v1/2v2 competition, Small sided games (3v2 and 4v3 variants), and finishing with Sixes. We will not emphasize full-field play during this block to maximize the total volume of touches and to keep guys moving. The best lacrosse players in the world are the most skilled and the most competitive. Our goal is to move in that direction during our first few months on the field together.

Expect to see improvement in the following areas:

GB Play- 1v0 all the way to 4v3 scenarios. Come up with tough ones and learn to navigate the field.

Stick Work- Consistency in all aspects of ball carrying, passing, catching, and shooting.

Small Sided- Offensive and Defensive development in 1v1-4v3. Angle play, off ball, field sense

Winter Development

Coming out of the Fall, we expect to have the skill to expand our training to a bigger field. Emphasis shifts to team play- transition work, riding and clearing, 6v6 scenarios, and Extra Man Offense vs Man Down Defense. Practice sessions are designed to build our players’ ability to read the game and read each other. Fall dev revolves around reactionary skills, Winter dev is all about learning to anticipate. We expect greater numbers with fall sports ending and the club circuit coming to a close, so most sessions will be half or full-field. Players must translate their individual/small sided skill into full field lacrosse IQ. Know how to do things, but also when, where, and why. It’s imperative that we maximize these opportunities so that we hit the ground running in the spring.

Spring Competition

The Spring Block is the pinnacle of what we’re looking to achieve- a State Championship. All of our work in the Fall/Winter Dev periods sets us up for our “Day 0” spring objective. Simply put, we want to hit the ground running and allow our spring coaches to prepare us for gameday immediately. The more that we have to revisit things like fundamentals and general lacrosse IQ in the spring, the less practice time we have to focus on the competition in front of us. Spring lacrosse is 75% about us playing to our standard and 25% about us handling the other team’s best shot. The more of that 75% we can get handled by day 0, the sharper we’ll be for the 25%. Spring competition will revolve around situational awareness, disciplined execution, and learning how to be a champion. A State Championship trophy is the ultimate goal in our program. It’s our goal and our expectation to compete every year.

Play like a Champion.
